Four Wingates Cottages is set
in the heart of a tiny hamlet in the heart of rural Northumberland.
There are wonderful views to the Simonside Hills and North
to the Cheviot Hills and East to the coast.
The owners live nearby and maintain the cottage, garden and
woodland. The village is close to the Northumberland National
Park and wildlife abounds: birds, red squirrels, foxes and
deer. You can step out of the door into beautiful countryside.
The Cottage was built in about 1850 and is traditionally
constructed of stone and slate. It is the end cottage of a
row of four and is set within a lovely garden, the extensive
lawn being available for visitors' use. It would have been
estate workers ' accommodation and, though spacious, has the
simplicity of design that would be expected. It has a staircase
which may be a little steep, but has a very good hand rail.

Walking, fishing, cycling, horse riding and golf are a few of the
local amenities. Cragside and Wallington Hall (National Trust properties)
and the Alnwick Gardens are close at hand. Castles at Alnwick, Bamburgh
and Dunstanburgh are really good to visit.
A short car journey away are the Simonside Hills and The Cheviots,
lovely, special places with lots of archaeological interest and
history. Walking is exceptionally good.
The local villages of Rothbury and Longhorsley are a few miles away.
The County towns of Alnwick and Morpeth are about 30 minutes away,
as is the beautiful Northumberland coast where you will find The
Farne Islands and Holy Island (Lindisfarne) about 45 minutes away.
| The cottage sleeps three. The accommodation is
tatefully modernised in keeping with the age of the cottage.
It is uncluttered and relaxing.
It comprises a large double bedroom with double
bed, on the first floor. There is a smaller single room to
the rear. There are glorious views over the countryside and
woodland.
The bathroom is downstairs and has a bath with shower over.
On the ground floor, there is a generous lounge with dining
area, again with superb views. The ceiling is beamed but not
low. There is a large inglenook fireplace, and a supply of
logs for those who wish to light the wood burning stove. Storage
heaters are available for heating too.
A new kitchen offers electric cooker, fridge/freezer, washing
machine, microwave, etc.
There is additional storage in the pantry which could also
accommodate fishing tackle, golf clubs, walking gear etc.
Bikes can be locked in the shed outside.
There is good parking on the private drive.
