are many beautiful and scenic walks in the natural and unspoiled countryside around
Rothbury which is extremely well placed for walks, long or short. 
For short walks, a stroll along the riverside and back into town may suit you.
For longer walks we can spoil you with choice - Harwood Forest and Simonside Hills
are on the doorstep, the Rothbury Terraces towards Thrunton Woods, and, of course,
the magnificent Cheviot Hills are just 15 minutes drive away.

(near Rothbury) has 3 fine crags, Simonside itself, Selby's Cove & Ravensheugh,
whilst the northern scarps of the moors to the north of Rothbury have Thrunton,
Coe and Callaly crags. 
Further west are Sandy Crag, Linshiels, The Drakestone and South Yardhope.
Northumberland is renowned for its bouldering, and there are many small crags
on Simonside and the Rothbury Moors. Especially convenient are Gimmerknowe and
Ship Rock, on the hillside above the western end of Rothbury, only 15 minutes
walk from Rothbury centre.

Caistron Trout Fishery.
Caistron is a mature, picturesque fifty acre lake located in
the beautiful Coquet Valley near Rothbury.
The lake is spring fed with crystal clear water and is well stocked
with rainbow trout, blue trout and wild brown trout.
Some areas of Caistron are a Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific
Interest, offering an great diversity of flora and fauna, and as
such are out of bounds. Some hides have been provided for bird watchers.

Upper Coquetdale around Alwinton offers excellent opportunities
to see Dippers, Common Sandpipers and Grey Wagtails in the grassy
valley bottoms, with the possibility of sighting Ring Ouzel and
