Alnwick Castle and Garden

Both the Castle and Gardens are major tourist magnets. Even before
you enter the castle, you cannot fail to be impressed by its appearance,
the approach from the north being especially photogenic.
The enormous castle (in England, only Windsor is bigger!), a bulwark
against Scottish invasions for hundreds of years, is the seat of
The Duke of Northumberland.
Visitors can admire the stately rooms (still his family home!),
with their superb art collection and tour the magnificent castle
itself, which has been the setting for many well-known films (it
was, of course, "Hogwarts, in the Harry Potter series!) |

The Garden, which has rapidly become famous in its own right, is
the brainchild of the present Duchess, who has worked tirelessly to
create a visitor attraction which appeals to adults and children alike.

It is perhaps best known for its iconic "Grand Cascade"
water feature but there is so much more to see, including one of the
largest tree-houses in the world, the various gardens (ornamental,
rose, serpent and poison ), the bamboo labyrinth and the woodland
walk. Visitors can eat and relax in the Pavilion and Visitor Centre
as well as the Tree House.
