Embleton Beach

When it comes to magnificent beaches, few counties can compare with Northumberland. From Tynemouth in Tyneside, all the way up to Berwick upon Tweed, the visitor is spoilt for choice!
Embleton's beach is just one of many but retains two special advantages on the others. Firstly, it can only be approached from the east over the Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course, or from Newton by the Sea to the north. That relative isolation means that, even on the warmest Summer days, it is never overcrowded!
Secondly, the fantastic vista of Dunstanburgh Castle to the south gives it a special charm, only, perhaps, equalled by the views of Bamburgh Castle from its own beaches further north.

Newton by the Sea

Just a little square of houses, with the essential pub in the corner, this is everybody's idea of the ideal fishing village/coastal hideaway!
Popular with the boating fraternity it supplies one gateway to the broad sweep of Embleton Beach, stretching all the way to the impressive ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Traffic is discouraged from entering the village but a large public car park is located at the top of the hill leading down into Newton.

Other Northumberland beaches in this order from South to North
Seaton Sluice - a long straight beach backed by tall sand dunes and bordered by Blyth Harbour.
Newbiggin - Scheduled to conclude in October 2007, this beach has recently been replenished with imported sand and a new breakwater built to protect the beach and improve the promenade.
Druridge Bay - A long, gently curving sandy beach, with a wide band of low dunes.
Warkworth Beach - A vast under-used beach offering miles of soft, golden sands backed by an extensive range of dunes. Just one of Northumberland's undiscovered gems.
Alnmouth - Where the River Aln flows into the North Sea, evidence of Britain's war defences is still visible at this beach. Nearby facilities are available at the village of Alnmouth and the beach is backed by golf links.
Longhoughton Beach - Fairly undiscovered and quite hard to find, this lovely beach is accessed by a long coastal path or through a farm yard. Abundant fauna and flora is to be found amongst the dunes.
Embleton Beach : See above.
Beadnell Bay : A curved sandy beach backed by low sand dunes and with a small harbour.
Bamburgh Beach : A large sandy beach backed by big sand dunes and offering excellent rock pools at low tide. Overlooked by spectacular Bamburgh Castle on its rocky promontory.
