PREHISTORIC POTTERY
March 6th & 7th
|
| |
| This workshop will equip participants to; prospect for
natural clay and prepare it for pot making; make their own prehistoric
tool kit; make and decorate replicas of prehistoric pots and fire
them in an authentic manner.
As it is not possible to dry the pots sufficiently to be able to
open fire them during the two day course, firing is offered as a
separate one day event. In this case firing of the pots will actually
be conducted on Monday 8th, to give me time for some 'speed drying'
of the thinner pots. This will be an optional third day of the workshop
at no extra charge, if you can't attend, your pots will be fired
for you and can be shipped to you by DHL at cost. Photographs of
the firing will be taken.
All materials and equipment will be provided. All pots and tools
that you make during the workshop are yours to keep. Information
sheets will be provided to help you continue potting once you return
home. You are advised to wear old clothes as potting is messy; an
apron is a good idea. Walking shoes are also advisable, as it may
be possible to visit one of Coquetdales many prehistoric sites
during the weekend.

ROMAN WHEEL MADE POTTERY
April 24th & 25th
|
and
|
ROMAN SAMIAN WARE
May 15th & 16th
|
| |
| The structure of the Roman Pottery workshops will be
similar to the above, but will obviously focus on Roman Making methods.
For the Roman Pottery workshops the firing of the pots will have to
wait for a week to allow for slower drying times and will be held
at Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend, where I have a kiln reconstruction.
This is an optional extra, at no cost for the workshop, although you
would need to pay admission to Segedunum. Again for anyone that can't
attend the firing there is the option of having the pots sent on at
cost. |
